Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cream ¾ cup of softened butter and 1 cup of white sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Mix in 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, then incorporate the dry ingredients.
  2. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out circles.
  4. Carve wedge-shaped cavities into each cookie to create the geode effect.
  5. Transfer cookies to parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  6. Let cookies cool on a wire rack.
  7. Whisk together 2 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and add food coloring if desired.
  8. Fill each cavity with royal icing and place rock candy crystals on top. Sprinkle with edible glitter dust.
  9. Let cookies dry at room temperature for at least 2 hours.
