For the Mocktail
  • 1 cup Fresh Watermelon Juice Use ripe watermelon for optimum flavor.
  • ¼ cup Basil Simple Syrup You can muddle fresh basil as an alternative.
  • 1 ounce Lime Juice Freshly squeezed juice preferred.
  • 1 cup Sparkling Water Flavored sparkling water can offer an exciting twist.
For the Simple Syrup
  • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar Consider substituting with honey or agave.
  • ¼ cup Water
  • ¼ cup Fresh Basil Leaves

Method
 

Making the Mocktail
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine ¼ cup of fresh basil leaves, ¼ cup of granulated sugar, and ¼ cup of water. Heat over medium heat until sugar dissolves, about 5 to 10 minutes. Strain out basil leaves and let cool.
  2. Chop 1 cup of ripe watermelon into chunks and blend until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp.
  3. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 ounces of watermelon juice, ½ ounce of basil syrup, and 1 ounce of lime juice. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
  4. Strain the mixture into a glass, top with sparkling water, and garnish with a slice of watermelon or a sprig of basil. Enjoy!
