Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together ½ cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Mix in ½ cup of buttermilk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon of salt in a separate bowl. Fold into wet ingredients.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 22–28 minutes until golden brown, checking for doneness.
  7. Prepare the glaze by whisking together 1 cup of powdered sugar, ¼ cup of maple syrup, and 1-2 tablespoons of milk or cream.
  8. Pour the glaze over the warm bars after they have cooled for about 10 minutes.
  9. Let the glazed bars cool for an additional 15–20 minutes before slicing.
