For the Meatballs
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Use 80/20 or 85/15 lean-to-fat ratio
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs Italian-seasoned preferred
  • 1/4 cup Milk Keeps meatballs moist

  • 1/2 cup Onion Finely minced
  • 1/4 cup Parsley Fresh herbs
  • 1 large Egg Acts as a binder
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder For aromatic flavor
For the Casserole
  • 8 oz Spaghetti Cook al dente
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil Prevents pasta from clumping
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese Freshly shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese Freshly grated
  • 2 cups Pasta Sauce High-quality marinara recommended

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly oil a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients and mix gently.
  3. Form 20-24 uniform meatballs and place them in the prepared dish.
  4. Bake for 18-20 minutes until meatballs reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  5. While meatballs bake, boil salted water and cook spaghetti until just al dente.
  6. Toss drained spaghetti with olive oil.
  7. In a bowl, whisk together a second egg, parsley, mozzarella, Parmesan, and pepper.
  8. Combine spaghetti with the cheesy mixture until well coated.
  9. Spread spaghetti in the baking dish, top with meatballs and pour pasta sauce over.
  10. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes.
  11. Uncover, add remaining cheese, and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  12. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
