Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the squid ink pasta and cook until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Reserve ½ cup of the cooking water before draining the pasta.
- In a large skillet, heat two tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add tomato paste to the skillet, mixing well with the garlic for about 1 minute. Add cherry tomatoes, white wine, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the tomatoes soften.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
- Add the drained squid ink pasta to the skillet. Toss gently to mix, then stir in the butter, lemon zest, and juice, adding reserved pasta water if needed.
- Remove from heat, fold in half of the fresh basil, and plate immediately while hot, garnishing with remaining basil.

Notes
This dish tastes best fresh! Consider preparing the sauce in advance and cooking the pasta and shrimp fresh when ready to serve.
