Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb Ground Beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
  • 1 Onion diced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce or diced tomatoes for a chunkier texture
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar or honey/maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce or gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Mustard or Dijon mustard
  • to taste Salt and Black Pepper
For the Pasta Base
  • 2 cups Pasta elbow macaroni, penne, or rotini
For the Cheesy Topping
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese or mozzarella/Monterey Jack
  • 1 cup Crushed Crackers or French Fried Onions optional topping

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the pasta until al dente, about 6-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In the skillet, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion and green bell pepper until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  5. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for 5-8 minutes.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, meat sauce, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Grease your 9x13-inch baking dish and pour the mixture into the dish. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and optional toppings.
  8. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until bubbling and cheese is slightly golden.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
