Ingredients
  

For the Tea Base
  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers Flor de Jamaica
  • 4 cups water boiling water
For the Sweetener
  • 1.5 cups sugar regular granulated sugar
  • 1.5 cups water for simple syrup
For the Flavor Boost
  • 2 none limes freshly squeezed juice
  • 10.5 cups cold filtered water

Method
 

Making Hibiscus Iced Tea
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1.5 cups of sugar with 1.5 cups of water over medium heat. Stir until dissolved, about 5 minutes. Allow to cool.
  2. Boil 4 cups of water and pour over 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers in a large heatproof container. Steep for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the steeped hibiscus tea through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a bowl, removing solid petals.
  4. In a one-gallon pitcher, mix the strained hibiscus concentrate, cooled simple syrup, and juice from 2 limes. Stir well.
  5. Add 10.5 cups of cold, filtered water. Stir thoroughly until well blended.
  6. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Serve over ice, garnished with lime slices or fresh mint if desired.
