Step-by-Step Instructions for Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Generously butter a 9x13 inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. Wash and slice Yukon Gold potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick, and layer in the baking dish.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until bubbly and smooth, then gradually pour in milk and cream, whisking continuously. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove the sauce from heat, stir in mozzarella and cheddar until melted into a smooth sauce.
  5. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes, cover tightly with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil, pour remaining cheese sauce over the potatoes, and bake uncovered for another 30-40 minutes until golden brown and fork-tender.
  7. Let the dish sit for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley or dill before serving.
